Explore Ogidi, the birthplace of Chinua Achebe, the sacred traditions of the Idemili Python, and the vibrant commerce of Nkpor.
The name "Idemili" is derived from the great Idemili River that flows through our land. In our cosmology, the river is more than water; it is a Goddess.
The Goddess Idemili sent the Royal Python (Eke Idemili) as her messenger. To this day, across Ogidi, Obosi, and neighboring towns, the Python is revered. It is forbidden to harm it. If found in a home, it is gently guided out, treated not as a pest, but as a guest. This deep respect for nature defines our identity.
